The avant-garde funk trio brings atypical sound to Denver music

Denver's Art Smart Anatomy have been named COjam's Featured Artist for April, 2016. The oddball jazz/space-funk trio is known for their unique style of play and downright bizarre approach to music and live concert. Though comprised only of pianist Nate Leichtman, bassist Brian Saulig and drummer/percussionist Eric Frank (founder of COjam), the trio manages impressively full sounds that offer color, mood-scape, and sonic scenarios entrenched in both thoughtful composition and danceable groove. You can experience those groovy images this April 11 and 18 at Quixote's True Blue in Denver, CO.

The band puts together an impressive live experience without superfluous external stimuli. The sounds of Art Smart Anatomy are theatrical yet raw, a familiar strangeness that produces intimately distant worlds you've never visited, yet somehow grew up inOur recent review of Art Smart Anatomy at Lost Lake Lounge describes an eerily aquatic theme.

Drummer Eric Frank reveals that the band will head into the studio to record a few tracks this month, too. I’m excited to hear some fresh jams and to see where this band's direction goes.

Stay up to date with Art Smart Anatomy’s goings on here at cojam.net throughout the month of April.
