Tried And True, Ween Reunites in Colorado

“Common-fucking-sense trumps ego”

As the highly-anticipated Ween reunion shows descend upon Colorado, the rest of Ween-nation feverishly reels with excitement, perhaps a bit jealous at their inability to witness their heroes' return.

Add another epic three-night run to the 1stBank Center's impressive resume, a venue that's quickly become a favorite of the Denver-metro area since its opening in 2006. The Broomfield arena has been host to multi-night stands with The String Cheese Incident, Dead & Company, Widespread Panic, and Phish. Add Ween to the list this Valentine's Day weekend, February 12-14.

The eclectic band has always done things their own way, so it comes as no surprise to us that Colorado was chosen for a reunion, a state that—let's face it—is doing things its own way.

How do you make a musician complain? Get him a gig.

Ween's last shows as a band were performed at Denver's Fillmore Auditorium, so returning to Colorado for the reunion shows was a "fitting place to pick back up," says Claude Coleman Jr., Ween's drummer of twenty-three years.

When asked about the upcoming reunion shows with Denver's Westword Magazine, Coleman stated that, "Boognish almightily rose through the smoldering, smoking cracks of subterranean Earth and into the sky, and slapped Gene and Dean upside their heads with 25 feet of flaccid penis and told them to get their shit together. In other words, the universe more or less initiated the return of Ween.”

It seems that it was simply time for the beloved band to return, to offer up what the fans have desperately yearned for. Coleman summarized it thusly:

"If you’ve got a business and people are lining up for miles and miles, waiting year after year on the street for you to just open and sell to them, eventually common-fucking-sense trumps ego, and you open the door to...make the world happy while feeding your family in the process. Musicians can be so self-important and uptight. There’s an old joke: ‘How do you make a musician complain? Get him a gig!’”

The Ween camp ought not feel too upset by missing the Colorado run. It would seem that subsequent dates are to follow. Just how many? We do not yet know. But rest assured, there will be enough bananas and blow for everybody.
